A 3-Day Devotional Based on Pastor Bill's message, May 10, 2026

Day 1 - The Strength of Gentleness

Read: 1 Thessalonians 2:5-12

Devotional:

We often equate leadership with authority and strength with a loud voice, yet the Apostle Paul uses a surprising image to describe his ministry: a nursing mother. This imagery highlights a profound spiritual truth—that the most effective way to nurture a soul is through gentleness. A mother’s care is selfless; she must nourish herself so that she has something to give to her child. She is patient, attentive, and deeply invested in the growth of someone else.

When we look at our own lives, how often do we lead with demands rather than this kind of "nursing" care? Gentleness is not weakness; it is power under control, motivated by love. It is the fruit of the Spirit working within us to ensure that the "nutrients" we are passing on to others are healthy and life-giving. Whether you are a parent, a mentor, or a friend, your influence is most potent when it is wrapped in the tenderness of Christ.

Application:

In what area of your life or relationship is God inviting you to replace a "demand" with the "gentleness of a nursing mother" today?

Day 2 - The Legacy of a "Yes"

Read: Luke 1:26-38

Devotional:

Mary was a young woman with her own plans and dreams when an angel interrupted her life with an impossible calling. Her initial reaction was human and relatable—she questioned, she reasoned, and she wondered how it could be. Yet, her journey led her to a place of total surrender. Her response, "Let it be to me according to your word," is the "big yes" that allowed the Savior to enter the world.

Our lives are often marked by small moments of decision that lead to significant spiritual outcomes. Motherhood, and indeed the Christian life itself, is a series of "yeses" to God’s plan, even when that plan involves sacrifice or paths we didn't choose. When we say yes to God, we are participating in a legacy of faith that spans generations. Your obedience today, even in the quiet or difficult moments, has a ripple effect that touches eternity.

Application:

Is there an area where you have been questioning God’s plan? What would it look like to offer Him a "big yes" in that situation today?

Day 3 - Finding Your Rest

Read: Matthew 11:25-30

Devotional:

Jesus offers an invitation that stands in stark contrast to the hustle and pressure of our culture: "Come to me... and I will give you rest." This rest isn't just a nap or a vacation; it is a deep, soul-level peace that comes from being yoked with Him. He describes His heart as "gentle and lowly," providing a safe harbor for those who are weary and heavy-laden.

Mothers, in particular, often carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, worrying for their children and tending to endless needs. But the message of the Gospel is that there is a Savior who has already carried the greatest burden—our sin—so that we don't have to carry the weight of our own worth or the future of our loved ones alone. When we come to Him, we find that His yoke is easy because He is the one pulling the weight. We are invited to rest in His finished work and His gentle heart.

Application:

What "heavy burden" are you carrying today that you need to lay at the feet of the gentle and lowly heart of Jesus?
